In the Creation interview on Sunday Jared confirmed that the pie bit actually WAS scripted. And he got to do it several times. : ) And that that WAS Bob Singer added in as a deliberate Easter Egg. Cool!

It was that gasp that Jensen made that made me think lung, but then he said goodbye to Sam for 2 hours so now I'm not sure. 😂 I thought any second he would spit up blood to indicate serious injury like they always do on tv and such. After looking at Sam's awful old man makeup, maybe they had already blown the makeup budget for the season or kept the makeup people away out of Covid fear? Either way, still obvious Dean got stabbed through something impotant. It wasn't like oh no, my gall bladder.

😂 It has been added to my list of fics I want to write before Christmas!

No, I agree. There was a lot of Jared and Jensen in that scene, for all the reasons you mention. I think it would have been obvious to fandom, but I hope to GA it just looked like brilliant acting. Because I'd really like them to win an award for their acting!! Maybe a SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama series...but they'd have to win jointly! Because SamnDean/J2...they come as a pair!

I agree with this 100%. It was a normal kind of death for a hunter, not manipulated by Heaven or Hell. As sad as it was, Dean’s death felt really right.

I’m still working through the comments before I figure out what to say, but overall I really loved this as a finale. It felt like the story came full circle and we were reminded in so many ways that this story started with the pilot and it’s Sam’s journey. No wonder Jared loves it so much!

Hard agree. I love the notion that it’s possible to watch the pilot, a few episodes through the years and the finale and basically have the whole story.

I'm not done responding to all the comments, and I feel like everything that I could say has already been covered, but I'll ramble anyway.

I had very low expectations of the finale, almost didn't watch it because 15x19 felt so perfect, but of course I couldn't resist. I had hoped the boys would end up together, and although I thought I wanted them to either die together or live out their lives together, I was surprised to find how much sense this episode made. I was so sad for Sam, even while I could appreciate intellectually the fact that he not only survived, but found love and joy again after Dean. I couldn't get past feeling like Dean got off easy, driving around Heaven for five minutes until Sam showed up, To me it felt right that he should go down fighting and saving those boys, and at least he did it of his own free will without any manipulations from Heaven or Hell. Yes, it's a tragedy, especially since he was obviously trying to get a job and maybe semi-retire from hunting. When I figured that out, it gutted me. But then I remembered that being gutted is at least part of what I signed up for when I fell in love with this show. Overall, I'm so grateful to the show for giving the boys a fit ending.

And I can see multiple ways to do a reboot or movie, many already mentioned here. I love the idea of Dean Jr. running a hunting ring out of the bunker and just deciding one day that he needs their help and boom!

The hoodie Sam was wearing was Dean's? Now I'm crying again!

[identity profile] amypond45.livejournal.com 2020-12-23 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to believe the blurry wife was deliberately vague, for all the reasons you point out. I figured he still wore his wedding ring because she died, maybe before that scene when Dean Jr is doing his homework in the diningroom? Certainly by the time of the scene in the Impala in the garage, Sam seemed to be alone, so blurry wife was dead and son had left for college and Sam was reliving his grief for Dean (every loss in his life makes him grieve hard for Dean again). I loved that scene, despite the bad makeup and hair. We really get to see how Sam never stopped grieving his brother.

I know. Heartbreaking. At least [livejournal.com profile] sylsdarkplace said that Jared confirmed the boys had 5 good post show down years. That’s something.

[identity profile] zara-zee.livejournal.com 2020-12-23 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, this ended up being my head canon as well. The emotional wreck that I was in the immediate aftermath of the finale just wanted a bit more guidance as to what happened to Sam after Dean died, but leaving it vague and letting us fill in the gaps ourselves was probably the right call!

I'm still trying to deal with this--I feel more depressed about the end of my Show instead of less as time goes on.

Today, though, it occurred to me while showering--all the best thinking takes place in a shower--that the reason why I liked this ending was because it was pretty much like all my own endings. Some happiness, some sadness, but rarely any end being neat and tidy because nothing ever is neat and tidy.

That's what I liked about the end. It came full circle, and we were reminded that as much as we love Dean, like you say it had always been *Sam's* journey, and to me that ending finally acknowledged that--maybe not in the way some folks wanted, but it worked for me. :)
